  Presentation #3

Suggestions to follow:

This is your last presentation before you take ASL 3 course after completing this course, which means I have to make sure you are eligible for ASL 3. To become eligible for ASL 3, you MUST meet the requirements to satisfy before promoting to ASL 3. The criteria will be based on classifiers, non-manual markers, contents of ASL, speed of fingerspelling fluently, and correct concept of using signs.

Thus, you are free to create any conversational story, however, your grade will be heavily on the whole ASL parameters as mentioned above. Write scripts in glosses.

Good Luck!

Be sure to wrie a creative and sensible story!

  Journal

Instructions: (Please read)
This is your journal, so please follow the instructions clearly. Otherwise, your grade will be affected. This report MUST BE TYPED, no exceptions! If not typed, fifteen (15) points will be deducted. Be sure to answer all questions COMPLETELY, not partially. For example, when I ask you to write 20 signs that you learned from a Deaf person, I MEAN 20, not 19, 7, or 1. Also I want to see more than just 2 sentences per question. Please answer completely to satisfy the questions concisely and explicitly.

Hint: You need to translate the questions below into glossed questions. Make sure the Deaf person understands the question. If s/he doesn't understand, you need to change the question into simple form. DO NOT let the Deaf person read the questions from your paper. The purpose of this is to translate legible questions into their level of communication.

Find an ASL native signer who is deaf, not hearing and ask her/him politely to spend about 30 to 45 minutes to complete the journal. Here are the questions.

  1. The Deaf person's name: ____________________________

  2. When did s/he learn sign language? Where did s/he learn sign language? How long did s/he learn sign language?

  3. Which does s/he prefer to have a deaf or hearing teacher? Why?

  4. Do his/her parents use sign language to communicate with him/her? Siblings?

  5. Does s/he have siblings? If so, what are their names and their ages?

  6. Is s/he a student or an employee? If employee, what company does s/he work for? If student, what school does s/he attend to?

  7. What is his/her favorite activity after school or work? What does s/he do?

  8. What do her/his parents do? How long have they been working?

  9. What is her/his hobby? Explain in details.

  10. Write down 20 signs that you have learned from the Deaf person.
